Are you a producer or a consumer?
It's a question worth pondering
In today’s issue, we touch on the Retro photo sharing app again, share social media survey results from last week’s issue, and delight in peaches. Let’s jump in!
📷 Retro
Based on your comments, some of you appreciated last week’s feature on Retro, an app for sharing photo memories with close friends or family. That makes me happy. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to give it a try. Use it solo for a week or two to get familiar with it and then invite a few close friends or family members to join you. Let me know how you like it.
We will be returning to the idea of community — and strategies and tools for supporting it — in the future.
📱 Social media
Thank you to all who responded to last week’s poll questions about your relationship with social media. If you’re curious, here is a summary of the responses received as of today:
How often do you go on social media?
75% daily
25% multiple times a day
How much do you share on social media?
67% rarely share
33% share highlights
For those who responded, social media use is frequent and more about consumption than production (sharing). It raises a new curiosity:
The results above — specifically about how much people share — aren’t too surprising. Jakob Nielsen wrote about this in 2006: “In most online communities, 90% of users are lurkers who never contribute, 9% of users contribute a little, and 1% of users account for almost all the action.”
🍑 Peaches
Last week I wrote, “Soon it will be time to pick peaches. I can’t wait because we’re eating the store-bought nectarines faster than they are ripening.” Well, shortly after writing that my wife and I decided to go see if we could pick some peaches. It was earlier than we went last season (and some varieties weren’t ripe yet) but we successfully picked twenty-four pounds. Here is a picture of the first box:
We have had three boxes of fresh peaches like this on the kitchen counter all week and have been enjoying them each day as they ripen. They are so good!
If you like peaches, I heartily encourage you to find a u-pick place near you or to visit your favorite farmers market.
May you have a wonderful weekend.
Be well,
-Bryce
