Another interesting piece Bryce. I am struck by the impactful juxtaposition of the specific and the general.
It actually reminds me of another recommendation which I encountered this week: "The only way you get to the universal is through the specific", a quote taken from an interview between Lin Manuel Miranda and Australian radio presenter Zane Rowe. Lin-Manuel is describing a particular song-writer's ability to capture humanity by marrying deep life insights with normal daily details. It's really interesting to listen to the lyrics of the song, and also to watch Lin Manuel's energetic enthusiasm whilst talking about Regina Spektor's work. On a separate note, I've really enjoyed reading your work this year. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. I'm already looking forward to what 2024 has to offer :)
Thank you. Yes, I am struck by the impactful juxtaposition of the specific and the general, too. That, perhaps more than anything else, is what really caught me with Clint Smith's work.
I am grateful for you connecting the dots and sharing that quote and link as I hadn't seen it before. I just read the post on LinkedIn and watched the embedded video and love his enthusiasm in discussing that Regina Spektor song. I think he's right: there really is something to finding the universal through the specific.
I appreciate you sharing that you've enjoyed my work this year. That means a lot. Thank you for taking the time to comment and share here.
What a captivating introduction to Clint Smith and his work!
Glad you found it captivating, Winston! His poetry is really striking.
