I’m not a graphic designer. Sometimes, I wish I were. Not like in a full-time professional career sense. More like I wish I had managed to squeeze in a graphic design class in college (along with a sociology class). It would just be so useful.
That said, I’m pretty happy with the visual identity I’ve developed for this Substack:
While I finalized it on January 1, this is the first time you’ve seen it. I was trying to create an informal, creative and authentic identity. Something individual, not corporate. How do you like it?
For the small logo (which you have seen on the website and in the app), it would be better to have a simple icon on a transparent background but I’m hoping that establishing a signature color will create recognition over time. On that point, I adjusted the colors on my Substack today so they now match this visual identity (you may not have noticed it, but the default blue was clashing). Little things. :)
…
I hope you have had a good week so far. Welcome to the weekend. Do you have any plans? I am going to take the weekend off from writing and will be back with you next week.
If you need any inspiration, I want to leave you with the Holstee Manifesto. If you’ve never seen it before, I promise you will feel moved in less than 3 minutes. I watch it whenever I need a little dose of perspective and it’s my gift to you, too.
Have a good weekend, ya’ll.
Until next time,
